Build your first automation

The trigger–condition–action model, with three rules worth copying on day one.

4 min read

The model

Every rule is one trigger, any number of conditions, and one or more actions. "When status changes to Done, if the task has a QA label, assign it to the QA rota and set status to In review."

Triggers available

  • A task is created, or moved into this project
  • A field changes — status, assignee, priority, due date, any custom field
  • A comment is added, or someone is mentioned
  • A due date arrives, or passes by a set amount
  • A schedule — every weekday at 09:00, for example

Three worth having immediately

  • When a task moves to In progress and has no assignee, assign it to whoever moved it.
  • When a task is overdue by two days, comment and notify the assignee once.
  • When a task moves to Done, clear the sprint flag and stamp the completion date.
